Position: Agricultural Extension Officer

Roles and responsibilities

  • Understand all the different products and services that are offered by Omia Agribusiness Development Group Ltd.
  • Understand the importance of solar irrigation pump and how it is beneficial to the farmers.
  • Create awareness of solar irrigation pumps and encourage farmers to invest in them.
  • Identify the land that has access to water sources and motivate the owner to use the land to benefit all seasons through using the solar irrigation system.
  • Follow up on the farming process and progress and organize peer-to-peer visits for smallholder farmers to learn from each other.
  • Ensure the training on how to use solar water pumps has been provided to farmers and monitor how they are using the system.
  • Work hand in hand with the irrigation engineer to ensure that the solar irrigation pumps are well delivered and installed.
  • Help farmers understand the importance of planting improved crop varieties, using Irrigation, and meeting market needs.
  • Identify, assess, recruit, train, and oversee all activities of village agents of Omia Agribusiness Development Group Ltd.
  • Set up demonstration gardens to illustrate the performance of different varieties to enhance adoption.
  • Plan for and implement our radio talk shows and adverts.
  • Look for organized farmer groups and support them with training.
  • Determine farmer training needs in line with enterprises of interest.
  • Design and implement different training models for farmers, farmer groups, and other institutions.
  • Identify and document all farmer challenges from the field for further support by management.
  • Seek for innovative solutions to address farmer challenges.
  • Ensure all farmers are properly profiled in the Omia Agribusiness Database (right from the field attendance sheets). Make an effort to follow up with all farmers that have purchased inputs from the shop.
  • Take all records of field activities and submit periodic reports for management to make a decision.
  • Provide farmers with linkages to Markets for their produce.
  • Represent the interests of Omia Agribusiness in meetings, events, farmer training sessions, and any other representation.
  • Regularly Communicate to management all issues concerning agricultural inputs, extension, and market linkages.
  • Keep informed on current agronomic product trends, problems, services, and resources.
  • Take care of all company assets such as motorcycles with utmost care.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification and Experience

  • At least a Diploma in Crop Production and Management
  • Experience in the Agricultural Inputs Business is an added advantage.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing attending to farmers at the input shop.
  • Must be willing to travel to the field.
  • The ability to ride a motorcycle is a MUST.
